Birthrights Request (SAC Recommended)

Organisation Description

Birthrights is the UK’s leading authority on the human rights of women and birthing people during pregnancy and birth. We empower women and birthing people, community groups and civil society organisations (CSOs) to understand their rights and advocate for others. We persuade public health bodies to protect human rights through pregnancy and birth and use this framework to empower healthcare professionals to deliver safe care. We challenge government to address the systemic barriers to Birth Justice.

What are they looking for?

Birthrights is looking for support to help us better evaluate the impact of our work. We are developing KPIs based on our new delivery plans, which are a mix of quantitative – e.g. number of people accessing our advice service; and qualitative e.g. positive feedback from participants of our training measures. As we seek to grow our organisation and meet the ambitions set out in our new 10-year strategic framework, we want to get a better sense of how our work is impacting communities, the maternity system, and influencing policy, practice and public perception. For example, we are testing new ways of reaching the most marginalised communities through free in-person advice and information sessions with women and birthing people, birth workers and peer supporters, but currently don’t have a way of properly assessing how many people we are really reaching through this modality and its impact. The ideal candidate will have experience of working with small charities to develop impact evaluation strategies, the systems and processes needed to collect and analyse data, and can support us to embed evaluation throughout our work. The support will be virtual and we are flexible on time commitments based on workplan to be agreed.
