Words Matter Request

Organisation Description

Words Matter’s mission is to improve children’s mental and physical health and development by ending verbal abuse of children by adults. Affecting 2 in 5 children, it can lead to lifelong harm impacting their self-esteem, relationships and work. The long term effects can be profound – anxiety, depression, eating disorders, substance abuse and suicide. We are the first organisation to focus solely on this issue and are evidenced-based and supported by a high-profile Advisory Board of experts. Our work focuses on three areas: Research on the scale and impact; Awareness raising through campaigns, resources and training; Collaboration with experts, policy makers, other organisations and those with lived experience to develop and scale solutions.

We have already generated widespread media attention with our research and last year hosted the first international conference on CVA with WHO and UCL. We have been called ‘inspiring’ in the House of Lords.

What are they looking for?

We are looking for volunteers in IT and finance to support us. Our Treasurer and Trustee has been an CFO and CEO and been doing all our finances but he needs some additional support. We are also looking for someone to help with IT in the form of systems, risk, CRM and ad hoc advice etc. We are also looking for one or two new Trustees as one recently took up a senior new role and didn't have the bandwidth to continue with the charity. Ideally it would be someone who has retired and can dedicate time to supporting us and is very interested in our mission and has a strong network. Our thinking is that someone from a senior banking or PE role would be ideal. Someone that has been a CEO or Chairman and wants to get very involved in an exciting new charity that is already making an impact and addressing an issue that has flown under the radar, yet can have a devastating impact and a huge societal cost.
