RAIS Lancaster Request

Organisation Description

RAIS is a local charity which provides advocacy, information and support services to refugees and asylum seekers living in Lancaster and Morecambe. RAIS runs a twice-weekly drop-in for refugees and asylum seekers, and a helpline 4 mornings per week. We provide information on matters including housing, benefits, employment, education, family reunion and applying for indefinite leave to remain. We refer or signpost to other professional agencies for advice where appropriate. We can provide advocacy for refugees in dealing with various agencies and organisations. Our volunteers accompany people to appointments, and help with form-filling, applications etc.

What are they looking for?

The ideal candidate would have qualifications and/or experience in accounting or bookkeeping, so that they could help and advise our volunteer treasurer, and help us ensure that we are using best practice in managing our finances. Experience of charity accounts would be particularly welcome, but not essential. We would like someone who is as passionate as we are about helping people fleeing war and persecution. It would be good to have someone in the North West, but this is not essential as all of our meetings are held via Zoom. During our first year as a registered charity we our board has been meeting every 6 weeks, but from September 2022 we plan to meet every two months.
