FarmAbility Request (Portfolio)

Organisation Description

Since 2013, FarmAbility has been supporting learning disabled and autistic adults in Oxfordshire. We support more than 60 co-farmers (our participants), across more than 70 sessions each week, throughout the calendar year. Our co-farmers are adults of all ages with moderate to severe learning disabilities. Many FarmAbility co-farmers are also autistic and physically disabled. Our current co-farmers range in age from 17 to 65 years old. When our co-farmers come to us they get involved in a wide range of purposeful, real-life farm and work-based tasks, including farm animal care, egg collecting, vegetable growing, orchard maintenance, conservation work and habitat creation, cooking and preserving, woodwork and outdoor crafts. Of the multiple barriers faced by people with disabilities, at FarmAbility we are best placed to tackle the
barrier they face to finding a regular, meaningful occupation, with all the benefit to physical health and mental wellbeing that having an occupation brings.

What are they looking for?

We are looking for a Treasurer trustee to ensure that the finances of the charity are safeguarded. Our Treasurer is responsible for overseeing our finances and ensuring that they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practices. We ask them to provide regular financial information to the other trustees and stakeholders and to oversee our annual Report and Accounts. We are looking for someone who is able to provide a financial perspective to our CEO and Chair, including the encouragement of cost control and value for money, as we look to expand our activities. Experience and skills would include: knowledge of bookkeeping and financial management; good financial analysis skills, and an ability to communicate clearly. To provide a financial perspective to the Chief Executive – including the encouragement of cost control and value for money. Our Treasurer would also contribute to the wider Board as a trustee to strategic planning and decision-making.
