Development Education Centre South Yorkshire Request

Organisation Description

DECSY promotes a global perspective in all levels of education, engaging teachers in topical global issues to help children and young people learn how to be effective global citizens. We encourage learners to look at the values of equality, human rights, justice and environmental sustainability and train teachers in using active learning methods to promote enquiry and critical thinking skills.

We have a strong track record of working with groups to effect lasting change. Our work encompasses teacher training and support; writing and designing teaching resources; delivering specific projects, in partnership with schools and other organisations, to promote global learning.

What are they looking for?

Since 1984, our small but dedicated staff team have worked with many primary and secondary schools across South Yorkshire, while also playing a key role in national and international initiatives. Current topics of focus include climate change, gender equality, and non-violent action.
In our 40th anniversary year we are looking for support to help us grow and continue for the next 40 years! We are seeking long term volunteers who have experience in marketing and/or fundraising and who support our aim of promoting education for a sustainable world.

We are also looking for new Trustees. Previous board experience is not essential. The Executive Committee meets six times a year, usually online but occasionally at DECSY’s office in Sheffield. The Trustees have responsibility for providing strategic direction and sound governance. These opportunities are non-remunerated Trustee posts.

DECSY is committed to equal opportunities and the promotion of diversity and inclusion, and are seeking to enhance the diversity of our Executive Committee. Therefore, while we welcome all applications from interested and suitably experienced people, we would particularly welcome applicants from UK Minority Ethnic Backgrounds.

Contact [email protected] (Chair, Trustees), for an initial informal discussion or send your CV to [email protected].
