AVATAR – Autistic Voices Advocating Together for Autonomous Rights SCIO Request

Organisation Description

AVATAR is a new Autistic People’s Organisation run by and for autistic adults who live or work in the Scottish Borders. Avatar aims to improve the quality of life of autistic adults in the Scottish Borders by:
– Building a community of autistic people
– Providing accessible and practical support
– Community engagement activities to increase the understanding, acceptance and meaningful inclusion of autistic people

What are they looking for?

AVATAR is looking for a treasurer, please see here for more information https://www.facebook.com/share/p/5EqCGaDR9knBrxjp/
As an autistic run organisation our long term goal is for all trustees to be autistic. However, as it is difficult for us as a fledgling organisation to reach autistic people with relevant skills we would be keen to work with anyone (regardless of whether they are autistic) who has relevant experience. They would be willing to fill the role in the shorter term while also helping us to recruit and train a less experienced autistic trustee to perform this role. The board of trustees meet online monthly so the support would be virtual. We would anticipate this committment will last approximately one year.
