Organisation Description

Amal works to tackle a root cause of the discrimination that adversely affects the lives of all Muslims in the UK– a dominant narrative about them which is negative, stereotyping and monolithic. We exist to help shift the narrative to one that is confident, diverse and just. We take a multi-arts approach to increasing understanding of Britain’s Muslim communities among others and to fostering a stronger sense of belonging in the UK among its Muslim communities. We work to help change the dominant, negative narrative around Muslims in the UK to one that is confident, diverse and just. We do so by growing opportunities for Muslims to fully realise and express their creative potential and to share and celebrate this creativity with others.

What are they looking for?

We are looking for a Trustee with experience as an artist or in another role within the arts sector to join our growing Board in the leadership of Amal. We will look for lived and worked experience within the arts sector over Board experience. • Attend four Board and four Projects Committee meetings per year. Meetings are usually held via video conferencing but occasionally may be in person in one of our hub locations. An agenda and set of papers are provided to trustees at least one week prior to meetings. Meetings of the Projects Committee may be replaced by decisions taken by circulation of emails.• Attend one strategy and development away day with the trustees and Amal team per year (in place of one Board meeting).• Attend Amal supported events from time to time and actively advocate and promote Amal’s work in public and among networks.• The Arts Trustee can expect to commit approximately 12 hours per quarter of their time including preparing for and attending Board and Committee meetings and additional tasks suitable to their area of expertise.https://amal.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Arts-Trustee-recruitment-pack-2022.pdf
