Community TechAid
Description
As lockdown turned digital access into an everyday necessity, people without were left especially isolated. Community TechAid creates access and digital inclusion by repairing old, donated devices and providing them to those who need them most.
Operating in Southwark and Lambeth, CTA trains volunteers, many of whom are long-term unemployed or former beneficiaries, to repair mobiles and laptops. CTA enables volunteers to grow their confidence, digital skills, and networks. It has so far saved 4,000 devices from landfill and given away 2,100 to those in need.
Our funding will unlock a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator post, to ensure enough volunteers to repair the 200 devices donated per month, and kickstart their small business e-waste programme.
