Shivia
Description
Shivia is a UK charity with operations in West Bengal, one of the poorest states in India. Its Livelihood Programme gives whole families the skills to enter new enterprises and radically improve their earning power. Shivia works in four distinct locations in West Bengal that cover 600 villages and since 2011 has provided training and poultry toolkits to over 6,000 home-farmers (predominantly women), indirectly impacting the lives of over 35,000 people. Shivia is run by a small dynamic team in the UK headed by CEO Olly Donnelly, who was awarded ‘Women of the Future, Community Spirits’ in 2014 and selected as one of Management Today’s ’35 women under 35′ in 2009. The Fore funded the expansion of its Poultry Development Service beyond West Bengal. Expanding the model increased Shivia’s potential to generate more trading income, which is key for its longer-term sustainability.
