Tyume Valley Schools Development Association (TVS) Request

Organisation Description

Our focus is on providing high quality educational support for children and in-service professional development for their teachers in an impoverished rural area in South Africa. For more than 20 years we have been the only charity consistently offering this support and we are well embedded in school communities. Our activities are designed to integrate professional development for teachers with the development of the basic skills and confidence of young learners to equip them for educational progress and entering employment. Our emphasis is on literacy, numeracy and ICT and on using progressive educational methodology, in and out of school, to foster a love of reading and learning

What are they looking for?

Tyume Valley Schools is a UK charity working to improve the quality of education and the life chances of children and young people in the remote Tyume Valley, South Africa, We were formed over twenty years ago by a group of UK educationalists, inspired by the anti apartheid struggle, and since that time have positively impacted the lives of many children and young people through our various programmes.
We are now looking to strengthen, update and diversify our charity with the aim of adding skills in areas which have become more important to us, deepening our connection to the communities we serve, and motivating new supporters who we hope will feel inspired to make a difference to the children and young people of the Tyume Valley.
We are looking for new Trustees and/or volunteers and would welcome interest from a wide range of people, including (but not limited to) those with fundraising, marketing and communication, and educational backgrounds. Role descriptions and further information regarding time commitment etc can be found on www.tvschools.org.uk/vacancies
