Organisation Description
The Old Fire Station has provided services to the community since it was decommissioned as a Fire Station the 1970’s. The Community Centre is in Stoke Newington, Hackney. Our tenants include Growing Communities which runs a low-cost vegetable box scheme delivered to 7,000 residents every week from OFS, as well as supplying fresh food to local Food Banks; Hackney Migrant centre which provides over 600 people per year with immigration, welfare, accommodation and health advice, Hackney Children’s Theare, Jamboulay Carnival Arts who run classes in making Carnival costumes free to local schools. We have more recently set up a scheme to encourage creatives and makers to join us for Affordable rent and in turn they supply voluntary hours to our communities in support of our work.
What are they looking for?
We aim to better reflect the diversity of our local community and actively encourage applications from people of the Global Majority, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and disabled applicants. Meeting are 2 hours and take place 6+ times a year. In particular we are looking for HR, Marketing and Building management expertise and an experienced Charity Board Chair.
