Organisation Description

RootsMove was established in 2022 with a clear aim - to provide financial support to refugees recently granted leave to remain in the UK who have been asked to leave Home Office accommodation. As one of the only organisations in the refugee and migrant sector offering a cash-direct solution for alleviating homelessness, we are pioneering an innovative and effective approach. In 2024, RootsMove launched a pilot programme with lending partner RefuAid, to support 20 refugee households to access housing or improve their homes. RootsMove worked with expert partners to provide wraparound support to clients across a range of areas including money, tenancy and employment. We are scaling our work to also offer small grants to new refugees to ensure we meet the needs of people who are at the highest risk of homelessness.

What are they looking for?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual who cares deeply about improving the experience refugees in the UK and has the skills and experience to support our small but mighty organisation to scale.

You will be supported by the steering committee who we meet with 4 times per year as well as ad hoc meetings with individual members.

Skills and experience
You do not need to have everything listed below, this is a guide for the kinds of experience this role requires:
Knowledge of the asylum system and refugee experience in the UK.
Knowledge and professional and/or lived experience of the Private Rented Sector (PRS)
Good networking skills
Strong written and communication skills for use across social media platforms, email and other digital platforms
Comfortable engaging with a range of stakeholders
Confident doing public speaking
A collaborative mindset
Commitment to RootsMove’s mission and vision
Comfortable working in a remote team- we don’t have an office so do almost all our work remotely.
Our work is led, shaped and guided by people with lived experience of seeking asylum in the UK and we are particularly interested in receiving applications from people who are experts by experience.
