Organisation Description
ESCAPE Family Support was set up in Blyth in 1995 by founder and current Chief Executive Janet Murphy and is a county-wide, community led response to drug and alcohol misuse in Northumberland. Northumberland is home to to approximately 316,000 people and covers an area of just over 5,000 km², of which 96.7% is classed as rural. The seventh most sparsely populated local authority in the country with 63 people per km². 51% of the population live in 3% of urban land mainly in the South East, the rest live across a vast rural area. Regional unemployment is higher and wages are lower than the national average. Whilst supporting the communities clustered in the south east of the county our aim is also to reach rural communities by developing local hubs of support for carers, families and friends.
What are they looking for?
We are aiming to recruit one or two trustees over the next few months to join our board and we hope you are tempted to consider joining us.
We aim for our Trustees to find that being a Trustee at ESCAPE provides an exciting and fulfilling experience. We believe that the most effective Boards are ones which benefit from individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds who each bring their unique and valuable knowledge, skills and experiences.
As a Trustee, you will ensure that ESCAPE fulfils its duty to its beneficiaries through good governance and high quality service provision and that we deliver on our Vision, Mission and Values – please see attached document.
You will attend board and other meetings and have the opportunity to get involved in the activities of the charity in a way that reflects your interests and skills and the needs of ESCAPE.
The role of a trustee is interesting and varied and enables you to make good use of your skills, experiences and energy. Whilst all trustees are responsible for the overall governance of the charity, we encourage trustees to make use of their individual strengths and abilities and we help them to develop new skills.
