Free Wheel North Request
Organisation Description
Free Wheel North’s mission is to create accessible communities that promote mental and physical health. We do so largely by inclusive cycling at the Glasgow Green Cycling Centre where people of every ability and background share space and company while enhancing wellbeing. The enterprising model of sustainability means we run the biggest and busiest centre of its kind in the UK yet with little or no funding. The Cycling Centre has tens of thousands of service user visits. Similarly, our other projects are enterprising including the two cafes, emerging bike shop and therapeutic woodwork.
What are they looking for?
We are looking for additional trustees to help primarily with business development. Given our ambition, to replicate, grow and expand nationwide, we need someone passionate about transforming public space, play and health, and with the ability to network, communicate and be an ambassador for our vision.
An understanding of HR, Health and Safety and IT are very desirable. We are applying for Climate Action funding at the moment and a grasp of this application, working with various partners would be ideal. An interest in cycling, public space design, food and waste, mental and physical health, are all important. Resilience and tolerance are essential and an ability to deal with problems and difficult human relationships, navigating a path between divergent views using compromise and compassion. Cycling development in particular can raise passionate views, for and against, so anyone in this field needs to withstand criticism, even abuse.
